While reading Yummy Yucky to Darcy Meg came to “Ice Cream is Yummy… too much ice cream is bad.”
Meg: “Why is too much ice cream bad?”
Darcy: “Because if you have too much ice cream you should share!”

I was the first baby among my parent’s brothers and sisters. Which meant a lot of attention, but also meant many aunt’s and uncle’s first baby experiences. So while my Aunt Susie was baby sitting, she gave me a big bowl of ice cream (so I am told – I was too little to remember). I gobbled it down and asked for more. So she gave me more. Again I gobbled and asked for more and again she gave me more… at some point, I turned to my generous Aunt and said, “I don’t feel good.”

When my parents arrived back from their date, I was sick and my Aunt told them, “Well he asked for it.”

This is the expected answer to Meg’s question. And it is true. Too much makes us sick. But I like Darcy’s answer better. If you have too much, then you should share. Who wouldn’t like to share a scoop of ice cream.

This reality goes beyond ice cream. We should share. With so many things, we keep asking for more. We seek and accumulate. And yet too much will make us sick.

After all, Sharing is Yummy. But Selfishness… that is Yucky.

39 Then the Lord said to him, “Now then, you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. 40 You foolish people! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also? 41 But now as for what is inside you—be generous to the poor, and everything will be clean for you.
